Mantz sensed that he wanted to portray this cave-like scene as the difficult way that people had to go up to the light. Unexpectedly, after about only two weeks of the painting’s completion, Mantz discovered an amazing appearance that incidentally occurred to the painting, which he calls as a “miracle made for (him)”. According to Mantz, “When I discovered this appearance, my first feeling was that I can pray for it, and the idea is that I see this miracle as a sign of blessing to continue with painting.
